John Robson

Johnny Robbo

On Voice, Percussion & Rhythm Guitar

John joined the band thru an advert in the Yellow Paper when the then members decided they needed a dedicated singer/frontman.

He was introduced to the Chuck Berry style of music by listening to early Beatles, particularly their version of Roll Over Beethoven and his influences include The Kinks, The Doors, The Pretty Things, Cream, John Mayall, Peter Green, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Fabulous Thunderbirds to name but a few. Vocalists John admires range from Mick Jagger, Jack Bruce, Chris Rea, Bobby Mack, Lee Brilleaux , Joe Cocker, Ian Astbury, Paul Rodgers, Paul Young and even Pavarotti. The latter being influenced by his ever loving and mega tolerant wife Denise.

Actively discouraged by his parents from playing guitar (they bought him an electric guitar, but no amplifier, and made him practice in the garden shed, even in winter.) As a result, John is a pretty crap guitar player, even though he has all the right gear and looks great on stage, he joins in on rhythm on a couple of songs, albeit VERY quietly ! His lack of guitar prowess is overshadowed by his lunatic actions behind the mike, and he can sing a bit too.

Robbo has a bit of a gear fetish and he insists on only using the best, (according to him!!)

He sings thru a Beyer Dynamic mic, and uses a Peavey 2000 watt PA system. It probably could be turned down, but he is crap with knobs & controls, so hasn't got round to finding the volume knob yet.

He has an unbeleivable collection of guitars, but tends to use a Fender Lonestar Strat and a £99 guitar kit he bought when he'd had a glass of claret too many off the internet.

Fortunately, he knows an accomplished luthier from Shotton, by the name of RUSSEL BENNET, who managed to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear in his garden shed.

The end result was a pretty hansome looking GIBBONS Less Pull, PRS body shape & Les Paul kneck.

Certainly turns a few heads !!!! Plays OK as well.

His guitar amplifiers include a Marshall 50w DFX, a Line 6 Flextone 2 combo & a 70's Marshall 4 x 12 100w Plexi stack which is FAR too big & cumbersome to hump around so resides in his music room.

Previous Band: Left Hand Drive.
